Many thanks to all those who came out for our first official CYNW Meeting! We had a TREMENDOUS turnout and even ran out of seats for everyone (our apologies to those who had to stand). The meeting took place at 7pm on Wednesday, January 6, 2015, at the Cooper-Young Community Association. Special thanks to the CYCA for hosting us!
All attendees were offered informational literature and posting materials for the Neighborhood Watch, including yard signs and window decals. We began with remarks from two of our city council representatives, Jamita Swearengen and Martavius Jones. Then, MPD representatives from the Crump Station Precinct gave a presentation on crime prevention tips. CY resident Aaron James closed out the meeting with an overview of immediate and long-term goals for the Neighborhood Watch and ways that residents can pitch in.
Local news media came to cover our meeting as well. As soon as the story is available online, we’ll post a link.
Not only was the meeting packed, but the energy and enthusiasm of our residents was palpable. In order to maintain this momentum, the CYNW plans to continue meeting once a month. We are currently exploring possible options for larger venues for future meetings. Please stay tuned for announcements on the February gathering. All details will be posted here as soon as they are finalized. Thanks again to everyone for supporting the CYNW!
